EHS Program Manager

Position Summary:

Responsible for the coordination and enhancement of Pacific Foods’ environmental health and safety programs. Manage and support efforts to improve performance, document and track progress related to environmental health and safety performance goals.

Essential Functions:

Oversee Pacific Foods’ solid waste reduction, reuse and recycling program; manage recycling personnel; manage customer and vendor relationships; and oversee campus solid waste, recycling and composting infrastructure.

Oversee campus regulatory permits: wastewater, storm water, non-contact cooling water and air emissions. Manage regulatory relationships with local, state and federal agencies.

Implement targeted environmental projects; lead and support other project teams.

Support campus-wide energy conservation efforts.

Prepare environmental reports, inventories and surveys, including: data acquisition, documentation, record-keeping, monitoring, review and approval, and submittals to regulatory agencies.

Responsible for Pacific Foods environmental and safety data collection, reporting and analysis regarding Key Performance Indicators and corporate requirements.

Facilitate implementation of environmental and safety education and awareness programs for all employees, including regulatory required training.

First Responder Leader – coordinates spill prevention and clean up program.

Conduct routine plant self-assessments and participate in corporate and regulatory agency audits.

Coordinate the resolution of environmental issues within Pacific Foods and among key stakeholders – corporate leadership, employees, suppliers, customers, community, etc.

Support plant safety program by participating in safety-related activities such as program development, work site inspections, identifying hazard, developing corrective actions and conducting investigations.

Participate in environmental/safety-related associations and events, as appropriate.

Secondary Functions:

As an employee of a food manufacturing facility you are responsible for ensuring food safety and quality by reporting any concerns to the quality assurance department.

Direct outside contractors/vendors as necessary.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position provides supervision for Pacific Foods recycling personnel, in close cooperation with the Operations Department. This position also provides general direction and coordination among co-workers across multiple departments on targeted environmental projects, initiatives and task forces.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

Broad understanding of environmental management concepts, tools and frameworks.

Working knowledge of related regulations and their application to Pacific Foods’ environmental programs.

Previous experience with wastewater and storm water regulations, permitting and compliance Previous experience leading organization-wide EHS initiatives.

Good understanding and knowledge of applicable OR-OSHA regulations and experience leading safety projects.

Previous experience supervising staff, including hiring, evaluating performance, addressing performance problems, etc.

Strong organizational, prioritization, decision making, data collection and problem analysis skills.

Solid written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to both lead and be an active participate on project teams.

Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and a demonstrated ability to learn new software and systems quickly

Exhibits ability to think practically and creatively to implement the best EHS practices.

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in environmental science, engineering or another relevant field.

Five (5) years experience working in EHS with emphasis on environmental compliance in the private, public or nonprofit sector.

Environmental regulatory experience a plus.

Working Conditions

Work is performed during the day in an office environment and involves the extensive use of the computer and other office equipment. Physical activities required in this position include the continuous fingering, feeling, talking, and repetitive motions of the hands/wrists, sitting, grasping and hearing. The position requires frequent reaching and handling. Mental activities involve the continuous reading, writing, speaking and understanding of the English language, interpersonal skills, teamwork, the use of discretion and independent judgment, problem analysis, the use of negotiation skills. The position involves frequent decision making.
