Executive Director of Facilities 

Work Schedule:

Scheduled office hours are Monday to Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm, and as required to meet deadlines. On call 24/7 via cell phone as needed.

Position Overview: 

Responsible for providing leadership and direction in the planning, development, budgetary, implementation and evaluation of the College-wide Environmental Health and Safety management system, all hazards emergency management programs, business continuity and risk minimization programs to ensure a safe working environment, secure facilities, resulting in a safe, secure environment for the college community. This position directly supervises the Code Compliance Project Coordinator.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide oversight of EH&S issues throughout the campus.

Develops and directs short and long-range organizational goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates effectiveness, and effects changes required for improvement.

Directly manages the development, implementation and evaluation of the campus-wide Environmental Health and Safety program to provide a safe and secure environment for the entire college community.

Directs College-wide training and ensures appropriate steps are taken to ensure campus-wide regulatory compliance.

Supervises and performs EHS inspections of labs and offices.

Works as liaison with contractors performing renovation and construction activities on campus.

Assure compliance with all DEP, DOB, FDNY local, state and federal environmental regulations.

Provide and maintain MSDS information for educational and administrative departments.

Ensure all NYC DEP and NYS DEC building equipment permits are maintained and up to date.

Work with the Facilities team to ensure all heating and cooling equipment is maintained properly and up to code.

In charge of inspection, collection, storage and disposal of hazardous and universal waste.

Responsible for waste minimization and assurance of proper disposal practices.

Supervise fire and evacuation drills with a registered fire drill company.

Monitor and maintain campus wide chemical inventories.  Provide and file Tier II and NYC RTK chemical inventories.

Monitor inspections and log books for fire prevention and suppression equipment.

Monitor and coordinate pest control contractor.

Provide on-site emergency incident response.

Manage the college wide trash and recycling program and carting contract.

Member of the Emergency Management team.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree required.

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Certifications (Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Safety Professional, Associate Safety Professional or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager) are a plus.

Minimum of 3 to 7 years of supervisory experience in environmental health and safety preferably in an educational environment.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. Must be able to compose clear and concise written communications without error or omission. Must be able to verbally communicate with a wide range of people in a clear and concise manner.

Maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials.

Subject to standing. Walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing and pulling. Occasional lifting of objects up to 50 pounds.

Work is routinely performed in office environments, with occasional exposure to both an internal and external environmental including inclement weather and varying temperatures.

May be exposed to hazardous chemicals.
