Industrial Hygiene Specialist','1806881','!*!The Dow Chemical Company has an exciting opportunity for an Industrial Hygiene (IH) Specialist in Seadrift, Texas. Responsible for implementing the industrial hygiene management system (work processes, standard, procedures) across an entire site in order to add value in order to meet business/site objectives and maintain the license to operate. This job is meant to be leveraged across a large site.
Implements detailed, task level, day to day Industrial Hygiene site wide programs, utilizing the IH work process, standards and procedures. For example, this may include hub or site wide radiation, asbestos or required chemical/noise/biological hazard exposure monitoring compliance tasks.
Ensures that the IH and Health aspects of Operating Discipline are adequate and applied to achieve Industrial Hygiene performance goals. In most cases, would be accountable to ensure the requirements of EH&S Standards are met for their assigned facilities.
Acts as the Plant, site resource for related IH information on procedures, guidelines and standards.
Plant, site contact for IH and H issues.
Perform and document employee exposure risk assessments Qualitative Exposure Assessment (QEA) for chemicals, noise, ergonomics, radiation and other IH-related items.
Coaches teams and individuals on IH related tasks and activities.
Assists in developing and achieving area, site IH goals.
Accountable for completion of IH compliance tasks.
Performs / coordinates IH monitoring, including monitoring strategy, data collection, analyzing and exposure data-reporting for the Plant.
Responsible for managing IH monitoring equipment including selection of equipment per monitoring method requirements and for regular primary calibrations of the equipment.
As required participates in the IH related reviews and projects.
Coordinates the schedules for audits in the IH related topics.
As required conducts and documents investigations of incidents and ensures follow up actions to prevent re-occurrences that are addressed in the Event and Action (EA) Tool (internal tracking database).
Coordinates with Industrial Hygiene and Health Services to assign medical surveillance requirements to affected employees.
Serve as a sustainability advocate and resource to the site.
Encourage incorporation of sustainable features in projects such as:
Use of native plants/grasses for erosion control, landscaping and wetlands development.
Monitor wildlife activity such as bird counts and other animal censuses.
Reducing raw material use
Reducing waste (eg. Streams going to the flare, liquid/solid waste streams that must be landfilled or sent off-site)
Looking for energy savings in projects.
Communicate and coordinate with outside groups such as the Nature Conservancy, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and Mid-Coast Texas Master Naturalists to provide needed expertise on site projects.
Develop programs/projects to engage employees such as bird counts and improvements to water bird rookery on site.
Critical Success Factors:
Working knowledge of all IH Work Process (WP) and tools, working knowledge of plant /department operations and processes, and excellent communication skills
Knowledge of all regulatory, permit, and company requirements for areas of responsibility
Knowledge of audit requirements
Working knowledge of cause and effect process and EA Tool
Can perform work process roles, as appropriate
Can perform Identify Risks role
Must be able to understand the business / site IH strategy and related performance data
Knows and able to apply their client's Management of Change (MOC) process
Can apply Safety Standards and Policies
Can determine applicability of IH tasks and activities as related to standards/requirements
Understands Plant/Site Operating Discipline issues and process issues that impact company environmental goals
Plant process knowledge
Must be able to write technical reports (Report will reflect observations of the work environments and behaviors).

A minimum of a Bachelor's degree is required.
A minimum of 3 years previous work experience in an Industrial Hygiene role is required.
Must have good interpersonal skills.
Must be able to work in an empowered team environment.
Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
Good computer skills to work with all Industrial Hygiene Work Processes and tools. Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel is required.
A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
Certified Industrial Hygienist is preferred.
Previous experience working in a Chemical Manufacturing environment is preferred.
