President HSSE reports to the President, Commercial Group and is accountable for
the integrity and oversight of HSSE culture, programs and processes for the
Commercial Group companies and Corporate.
This position plays a vital role in supporting NANA’s strategic efforts
by building an outstanding HSSE culture.
The position is accountable for establishing the vision, strategic
plans, programs and policies to ensure that HSSE is fully embedded in the
businesses – with leaders and with staff.
This accountability will require partnership with business leadership,
HSSE professionals, clients, regulators and agencies.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesLead through
active and visible engagement, holding leaders and staff accountable for
delivering HSSE vision, programs, processes and behaviors to underpin NANA’s
intent to be world class.
for the primary leadership relationship with clients, vendors, regulatory and
government agency personnel in the matter of HSSE.
execute NANA’s HSSE strategy along with policy evaluation/development and
partnerships and effectively direct leaders and staff in a matrix-reporting
relationship amongst the Commercial Group businesses and Corporate.
essential program development for monitoring and reporting in both quantitative
and qualitative terms. Establish safety
goals and metrics in support of NANA’s strategic initiatives and organizational
capabilities. Establish a reliable risk
management approach that includes continuous improvement.
for creating a cross-business crisis management program and team that is
scalable and addresses corporate and business needs for business
standard program for auditing and reporting on operational practices that
builds upon learning and enhances organization competency and capability.
compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations.
the Commercial Group businesses and Corporate in developing and implementing
training programs to educate and build competency on workplace safety,
environmental, crisis response and accident prevention requirements and
contract management system and support RFP/contracting process in the
businesses and Corporate to ensure standards are achieved.
oversight of incident investigations, establishing root causes and providing
robust recommendations to prevent future reoccurrence. Lead and manage key near misses,
hazard/accident investigations and reporting.','!*!Minimum
degree in engineering, operations management and/or HSE disciplines.
15 years of
operations and/or HSE experience involving several disciplines (e.g.
construction, mining, oil & gas, engineering, etc.)
8 years of
leadership experience and accountability for developing, implementing and
maintaining a certifiable HSSE Management System.
leadership engagement, organization and communication skills and behaviors.
influence, persuade and hold parties accountable for meeting requirements and
attaining or exceeding goals.
build relationships both internally and externally through partnering and
in leading and/or participating on crisis response using unified command

driver’s license and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years

Conditions and Physical Requirements
This position requires a majority of the work to be performed inside in
an environmentally controlled office, occasionally requiring work to be
performed outside where the employee may be exposed to harsh weather
Noise level: The noise
level in the work environment is usually moderate to quiet, may be exposed to a
loud work environment when traveling to worksites.
Description of environment: A majority
of the work will be in a standard office environment with standard office
equipment. Incumbent must also be able to visit the Red Dog Mine, locations on
the North Slope as well as various other sites both locally in the state of
Alaska as well as Nationally. May be
required to work in less than ideal offices, facilities, or situations when
Physical requirements: Employee is
required to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand,
walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or
crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
Travel: Up to 20% of the time. Employee
may travel throughout Alaska and/or to remote locations and may be required to
use alternative modes of transportation, including but not limited to snow
machines, boats, small airplanes and ATVs.
Travel to and from the worksite will be provided and arranged by NANA.
