RISK MANAGER/PATIENT SAFETY COORDINATOR

Reporting to the director of Quality, Risk Management, and Patient Safety, the courteous, helpful professional we select for this important role will track trends of adverse outcomes and reported safety events. This individual will review safety reports, investigate actual and potential safety/liability issues, use trends from safety reports, patient safety rounds, and other sources of data to focus on areas for further analysis, risk management, patient safety, and loss-prevention activities.
Additional responsibilities include:
Providing patient-safety and risk-management education for staff.
Participating in the coordination of patient-safety-improvement activities that reduce the risk of patient harm.
Promoting system-level changes and organizational learning.
Ensuring follow-through on patient-safety events and implementing data-driven process improvements.
Collecting, analyzing, and sharing RL Solutions data.
Rounding on clinic units and departments to educate staff on patient safety and risk-management strategies to mitigate loss and improve reporting in a Just culture.
Assisting and/or leading thorough and credible patient-safety activities and ensuring that in-depth analyses of sentinel events or near misses occurs with timely completion of follow-up actions.
Deploying plans for sustaining improvement and promoting organizational learning.
Collaborating with the clinical organizational staff in contributing to the development of an annual patient safety education plan.
Bachelor’s degree in nursing or other allied professional field with experience in patient care.
RN or other allied health professional Florida state licensure to practice.
Minimum of five years in a healthcare setting, including responsibility for directing and implementing major processes related to healthcare issues encompassing performance improvement and patient-safety issues.
Proven ability to provide in-depth reports to a variety of audiences in a succinct and timely manner.
Strong written and verbal communication/interpersonal and organizational skills.
Epic, Cerner, or other EHR software systems.
RL solutions patient-safety event reporting system.
Business Skill Requirements:
Knowledge of statistical concepts, patient-care process, accreditation standards, CQI, TQM, NCQA, Patient Safety Activity, Failure Mode, and Effect Analysis.
Experience and proficiency with computer software and data analytics, including Microsoft Word and Excel, Visio, and other database programs.
Licensure as a health care risk manager or eligibility within 12 months of hire.
Nationally recognized quality-related certification, such as CPHQ.
