POSITION SUMMARY:Responsible for planning, organizing and implementing the Wanzek Safety Program demonstrating management skills and the ability to manage all aspects of a project safety program. May be the lead safety manager on a project and will report directly to the Corporate Director of Environmental Safety and Health or a Division/Senior Safety Manager.  Will demonstrate skills of a Safety Manager I, with progressively increasing responsibility and authority.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Work as a leader in the job site safety department, functioning under the authority and direction of the Corporate Director of Environmental Safety and Health and directly supervise Safety Manager I's and Safety Coordinators Daily, set exemplary standards of ethics and stewardship of Wanzek's resources, support Wanzek beliefs, function as a team player and help maintain trust and communicationConduct workplace safety checks and take all necessary corrective action to assist in elimination of hazardsDocument actions on daily activity reportSpend 40% of the time in the field Implement the Zero Injury System of safety excellence and R4 Program on the projects and monitor results Assist in writing, organizing and implementing jobsite safety plansReview Pre-Task Plans and provide feedback to assure continuous improvementWork directly with the Site Production Manager and the management team to develop and implement and maintain an effective site-specific safety & environmental planManage the Wanzek injury management program. Set up a working relationship with a local physician, explaining the Wanzek philosophy of managing accidentsCoordinate and present safety training to support Wanzek and client requirements, including planning, documentation, and presentation to include: New Hire Orientation, Fall Protection, Confined Space, Lockout/Tagout, Respiratory, and other accident prevention programs as appropriateAttend and participate in weekly general safety meeting, weekly supervisor's safety meeting, and PODsParticipate in and monitor the jobsite R4 Safety Committee Assist in the creation of incident reports and Lessons Learned documents and assuring quality and accuracy Leading incident investigations to identify causal and contributing factors and finally root causes.  Assuring corrective actions are identified and reporting progress to completion.Maintain relations between Wanzek and clients regarding safety matters through effective communicationParticipate in site inspections and testing as necessary for required permits, including programs such as: confined space, hot work, trenching, etc.Coordinate with Corporate Safety Department on overall program, project training needs, injury management, citation management, OSHA/MSHA reporting requirements, and other applicable mattersAdminister drug and alcohol policy on site which includes specimen collectionMaintain jobsite first aid and emergency response suppliesCreate notices of noncompliance for Wanzek employees and subcontractorsUnderstand all environmental permitting regulations and measures to ensure complianceQualificationsEDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:Minimum of 7 years of construction experience managing safety and have demonstrated the ability to provide a high level of safety leadership to both management and craft workersAssociates Degree and CHST is preferredMust be willing to obtain CHST within one year of employmentMust possess OSHA Construction 30-hour cardKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:Functional computer skills and knowledge of the MS word, PPT and excelAble to make power point presentations and spreadsheets as required to manage the safety programWrite reports with reasonable accuracy and appropriate grammarCommunication and report writingOversee and manage all aspects of a safety program on highly complex field projects, demonstrating exceptional management and leadership abilitiesKnowledge of MSHA/OSHA regulations and hazard recognition, record keeping and injury management skills, and written and verbal communication skillsCertification as an OSHA, MSHA and First Aid instructor is preferred Commit to working towards Professional certification (CHST, ASP, etc.) within one year of startWE ARE AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER
