The EHS Manager provides guidance and expertise in areas of environmental, health, and safety issues for the business unit. The incumbent ensures compliance with all applicable EHS regulations to include; corporate policies and programs; federal, state and local regulations. The incumbent also exercises considerable latitude and independence in determining deliverables based upon long term strategies of the business unit. The incumbent acts as primary interface with all external EHS agencies and corporate individuals and teams regarding EHS activities for the site.
A Day in the Life:
â€¢ Continually assessing the needs of relevant environmental, health safety management systems, plans and procedures.
â€¢ Provide expertise in conducting environmental assessments, safety audits and pollution prevention activities.
â€¢ Oversee the emergency response team and other cross functional EHS teams as necessary.
â€¢ Obtain and maintain the required environmental permits and licenses as well as prepare and submit the required environmental application reports and letters.
â€¢ Leads accident and incident investigation identifying root causes and development of corrective and preventive actions
â€¢ Identify and work to correct any practices that have or may cause contamination of the environment in accordance with corporate policies and procedures. This includes areas such as air emissions, hazard materials/waste management, and toxic substances.
â€¢ Establish and maintain Toxic Use Reduction Plan as well as written pollution minimization/prevention programs to reduce the volume and toxicity of manufacturing wastes.
â€¢ Oversee occupational hygiene monitoring
â€¢ Maintain access to (through hard copy or internet) current applicable local, state, federal, and international regulations.
â€¢ Perform environmental health safety evaluations during product design and transfer, process/ equipment modifications and facility changes.
â€¢ Establish and carry out written occupational safety and health programs to reduce recognizable hazards and comply with federal, state and local regulations and corporate policies;
â€¢ Conduct periodic internal-audits of the Danvers facilities to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory agencies and corporate policies;
â€¢ Leads the development and/ or maintaining of the site Business Continuity Planning activities.
â€¢ Provides direction for capital and operating expense budget forecasting and projections for the EHS department
â€¢ Manage the site E-CAPA program.
â€¢ Manage external audits for site certification i.e., CE Mark, FDA, OSHA, etc.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
Develops, administers and implements environmental programs in accordance with governmental requirements.
Depending on position location, may monitor pollution prevention activities, compliance and auditing efforts.
Conducts studies and prepares environmental impact reports for new construction projects, plant processes and permit changes.
Reviews and analyzes environmental documentation issued by the federal EPA, state and local regulatory agencies.
Evaluates proposed regulations to determine financial, industrial, public and environmental impact.
Interacts with federal, state and local regulators to resolve compliance issues; establishes permit requirements and assists in EPA, state and local regulatory audits.
Represents Company in government and industry rule-making activities.
Ensures appropriate corrective action is taken where environmental, health, and safety hazards exist.
May provide/promote employee awareness/training on matters of environmental, health, and safety.
â€¢ B.S. in Occupational Safety, Environmental Sciences, Management or related engineering program.
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
â€¢ 5 years in an Environmental Health and Safety Position with at least three years performing EHS Management activities.
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
â€¢ Good verbal and written communication/negotiation skills
â€¢ Able to lead and participate in teams
â€¢ Able to positively influence individuals
â€¢ Excellent knowledge of environmental and health safety regulations
â€¢ Good organizational and planning skills
Nice to Have:
â€¢ M.S. in related field
â€¢ At least 2 years at a medical device manufacturer, laboratory or related industry
â€¢ Knowledge in use of project management software applications.
â€¢ Toxic Use Reduction Planner (TURP)
â€¢ Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
