Day in the Life:
Create, own, implement, and improve the future state HSSE management system for the plant. Support behavioral based safety programs and processes.
Incorporate new HSSE regulations, directives and standards into the management systems of the plant. Conduct regular internal HSSE auditing to ensure compliance including follow-up on incident/accident investigation through the OSHEN system, corporate audit actions, and compliance inspection actions.
Interact with production and maintenance team to ensure policies and procedures are being followed. Train, audit, instruct, and correct where necessary.
Chair, conduct, and report on the actions of the Plant Safety Committee.
Prepare necessary air, water, waste streams, and solid waste management activities and disposal permits.
Manage and coordinate Safety Training for the entire facility.
Ensure that Federal, State, and local HSSE laws, regulations, codes, and rules are observed and adhered to.
Create ways to keep workers and the general public safe from harm by working with peers to identify and resolve unsafe acts and conditions.
Inspect machines for safety devices and guarding compliance.
Evaluate current and future equipment, products, facilities, or processes and those planned for future use through a Management of Change process.
Develop methods to predict hazards.
Uncover patterns in injury data.
Design programs to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury.
Evaluate the probability and severity of accidents – Risk assessments
Provide specialized technical advice and support on all aspects of tool design, machining and manufacturing and estimating.
Objectives and Expected Accomplishments - How can this role make an impact?
This individual must have the ability to create a future state and drive the team to achieving it. This requires the ability to influence employees across three shifts, disciplines and all stages of employment (new hires to experienced hires). The individual will have a bias for action, be a change agent, drive results, coach/mentor, and be a hands-on doer when required.
Education and Requires Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health, Safety, or a related technical field is required plus six (6) years of experience in a machining manufacturing environment. Equivalency may be considered with a minimum of twelve years relevant experience.. Strong competency with Microsoft Office tools.
Excellent verbal, written, and oral presentation skills in the English language required, with Spanish proficiency preferred. Additional certifications and training in Safety, Environmental Compliance, and related fields highly desired. Must have CPR/First Aid Certification, or be able to obtain certification within 90 days of hire. Prefer candidates with experience working in a Union shop environment.
