Position OverviewInspects machinery, equipment, and working conditions in the construction setting to ensure compliance with occupational safety and health regulations.Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)Inspects machines and equipment for accident prevention devicesObserves workers to determine use of prescribed procedures, best practices, and safety equipment, such as glasses, hard hats, goggles, respirators and clothingInspects specified areas for fire-prevention equipment, LOTO equipment, and other safety and first-aid suppliesTests working areas for noise, toxic, and other hazards, using decibel meter, gas detector, and light meterDocument all accidents, safety violations, unsafe conditions/activities within prescribed reporting timelinesPrepares timely report of findings with recommendations for corrective action/sInvestigates accidents to ascertain causes for use in recommending preventive safety measures and developing safety program/sMay demonstrate use of safety equipmentDelivers training/education in the field for compliance to all safety related mattersEnsures compliance with occupational safety and health regulationsCoordination of Safety programs to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and financial lossesDevelops strong working relationships with field employeesLeads by example in terms of all safety standards at all timesCarries out all assigned tasks and projects in a timely mannerAssist with Human Resources with the recruitment/orientation processesAdditional assignments per EHS Manager’s directionQualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.Education/ExperienceBachelor’s Degree of occupational safety/health preferred or equivalent combinations of training and related experience At least 1 – 2 years of constructions and/or industrial safety experienceSmith System InstructorThorough understanding of and ability to enforce all federal, state, local and Company regulationsWork RequirementsMust be 18 years in age or olderMust pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background checkStrict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee HandbookWillingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as requiredDisplay a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all timesMust be willing to travel and work away from home when requiredMust be willing to work nights and weekends when necessaryCompliance with all OSHA and/or MSHA regulationsKnowledge/Skill RequirementsAbility to recognize hazardous situations and implement essential corrective measuresSolid training/teaching experienceMust be knowledgeable of Workers’ Compensation lawsHigh ethical standardsExcellent communication skills (both oral and written)Can marshal resources (people, funding, material, support, etc.) to get things doneMust be able to orchestrate multiple activities simultaneously to accomplish a goalAble to use resources effectively and efficiently and arrange information in a useful mannerBe able to be a strong voice in bringing the company’s slogan of Safety First, Always to the forefrontPhysical RequirementsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.Able to communicate with others by telephone and in personAble to utilize a computer for word processing, e-mail communication, and preparation of documents and presentationsIntermittent climbing, bending, squatting, kneeling are requiredPeriodic, but extensive walking and standing requiredMust also be able to drive a vehicle and walk uneven terrainMay require periodically lifting objects up to 30 lbs.Work EnvironmentMay be exposed to extreme hot, cold and wet weatherWhat Oldcastle Offers YouA culture that values opportunity for growth, development, and internal promotionHighly competitive base payComprehensive medical, dental and disability benefits programsGroup retirement savings programHealth and wellness programsAbout OldcastleOldcastle has a long and proud heritage as one of North America’s largest corporations.
