Essential Job Functions
Serves as a member of the county interim housing cross sector team.
Address public and stakeholder inquiries and complaints during the Interim Housing Compliance and Enforcement Program planning and implementation phase.
Develop county ordinance and associated policies and procedures for inspections.
Conduct field inspections and complaint investigations of interim housing facilities related to health and safety standards to determine compliance with relevant public health laws and regulations and county codes; complete reports of areas in violation.
Work in partnership with interim housing operators to discuss correction of deficiencies, to develop a corrective action plan, and conduct follow-up inspections to ensure violations are abated.
Collaborate with partnering agencies to identify methods to support corrections/compliance of violations observed.
Liaison with county monitoring agencies to evaluate and support the needs of interim housing facilities.
Provide training on the health and safety inspection protocol for various County monitoring agencies and interim housing facility operators.
Verifies the proper manufacturing, storage, preparation and transportation of food products served at interim housing facilities, ensuring process is free from contamination, adulteration, or mislabeling; investigating suspected food borne illness complaints.
Evaluates permit applications and reviews and provides feedback on the requirements as set forth in monitoring contracts.
Facilitate meetings with the interim housing industry as well as funding and monitoring agencies to provide current information on environmental procedures and public health laws.
Performs administrative studies or analysis of public health laws and ordinances by comparing State and local codes pertaining to interim housing services to determine their impact on environmental health programs and operating methods.
Conducts special investigations such as food related poisoning; recalls; sampling; complaints; or provides support in the resolution of the more difficult investigations.
Certificate as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist issued by the California State Department of Health Services.
Must currently be a permanent Los Angeles County employee who holds the payroll title of Environmental Health Specialist III.

Ability to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines.
Knowledge of Public Health License/Permit procedures and computer skills (Microsoft Office Programs), Envision Connect, etc.
