Position Description Work in the Finance and Administration Division of the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) with a team of professional whose mission is delivering a first-rate transportation system for Seattle. This position provides management support in the planning, development, delivering, and evaluation of safety policies, programs, and training; promotes safety and health for all SDOT employees and promotes compliance with legal regulations and department policies. This position will report to the Safety & Health Supervisor. Job Responsibilities Research, develop, and implement safety programs relating to Industrial Hygiene, Hearing Conservation, Respiratory Protection and Hazard Communication, or as assigned; Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of various data gathering projects related to safety, works comp, site audits, vehicle incident; Organize and maintain regular porting of the department's safety performance data; Refine existing safety programs and develop new processes and procedures to increase effectiveness in the daily operations at SDOT; Analyze specialized work practices and develop safe and health programs and standards that ensure compliance and federal and state regulations; Communicate direction and technical expertise to Supervisors and Managers to facilitate, coordinate, and implement health and safety practices, programs, and activities; Investigate, evaluate, and analyze safety hazards, incidents, reports, of unsafe conditions; Plan, organize, coordinate, and conduct safety training programs; Teach, promote, and develop employee educations programs to reduce workplace injuries and incidents; Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and outside agencies; Participate in SDOT and citywide safety committees; Support department goals in promoting diversity and social justice. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Requires three years of experience in a safety or health related field and a Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health, Safety, Toxicology, Industrial Hygiene, Biology, Engineering or a related field (or a combination of education, training and\/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class). Ability to work effectively work in a multi-cultural workplace with a diverse customer base. Desired Qualifications Working knowledge of Industrial Hygiene, hearing conservation, respiratory protection, and hazcom; Experience with Workers Compensation claims management; Knowledge of commercial driver regulations; Experience with process improvement and project management; Experience with MS Office and database applications; Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH); Knowledge of federal and state safety regulations; Experience in conducting incident fact finding and suggestions to provide detailed reports of finding to improve workplace safety; Experience in presenting information that promotes safety, health, and wellness to various audiences; Ability to communicate and work effectively as a team member in all levels of the organization; Experience in the development of safety and industrial hygiene programs; Multilingual. Additional Information Other Position Requirements Current Washington State Drivers License or evidence of equivalent mobility; A background check may be required for this position
