Safety Specialist - Shreveport, Louisiana','SAF00529','!*!Summary:Develops, implements and evaluates programs and procedures to achieve an injury and incident free workplace. Monitors and helps coordinate strategies for the organization’s safety policies and procedures in accordance with OSHA and State regulations. Supports investigations of personal injury and vehicle incidents to determine root cause, contributing factors, and to recommend and support corrective actions to assure optimum incident and injury prevention. Reviews safety statistics; develops reports and distributes to management trend analyses – such as pareto analysis on root causes. Performs or coordinates industrial hygiene exposures for hearing, respiratory, etc. as needed to protect workforce from potential injury or illness and meet regulatory requirements.Essential Duties/Responsibilities:Works in conjunction with corporate and business unit management in developing effective safety programs and policies as well as directing the development, delivery and implementation of all safety programs.• Identifies, evaluates, and recommends programs and processes that will eliminate hazards to ensure a safe workplace in compliance with applicable state and federal laws, such as OSHA, DOT, EPA, Company Standards, etc.• Develops, implements, and distributes the safety curriculum for Company employees.• Helps to ensure all mandatory safety training is completed and is in compliance with regulatory/governmental standards and codes.• Maintains relationships as necessary with appropriate agencies and keeps abreast of regulatory/governmental proceedings to identify impacts to the organization.• Reviews safety statistics to identify contributing factors such as environmental conditions, time of day, time of week, age of employees and other factors; measures progress of safety efforts against goals.• Performs audits of company employees, equipment and facilities for safety compliance. • Interprets regulations (City, County, State, Federal) to field performance, application and compliance. Consults with management and employees on safety issues.• Assists legal department as required regarding occupational safety and potential exposure concerns.• Monitors plans and procedures to accomplish emergency response and environmental activity goals, objectives and initiatives.• Coordinates and participates in inspections including notifications, preparations, results feedback and correction of deficiencies.• Helps specify and recommends equipment and PPE purchases to ensure adequate safety protection is provided.','!*!Education: 

Requires either a bachelor’s degree in Safety or related technical field (Safety Industrial Relations, Industrial Engineering), Business or Behavioral Sciences. In lieu of a degree the position requires a minimum of eight (8) years in the electric/gas energy delivery field with documented experience managing safety practices in the field.Experience:Requires a minimum of five years in the energy delivery or related industry such as gas, chemical, or manufacturing industry in the areas of designing, implementing, and managing an effective safety process.Additional Knowledge, Skills, Licenses/Certifications, Abilities & Personal Characteristics (KLSAPs):Able to apply knowledge of industry and company safety standards and regulations.• Able to demonstrate and apply knowledge of federal and state D.O.T. Regulations and the O.S.H.A. rules and regulations.• Able to demonstrate and apply working knowledge of OSHA regulations and standards, and other applicable regulatory requirements.• Able to lead by example, demonstrating sincere commitment to appropriate safety and technical skills.• Able to provide a valid state driver’s license and to present and maintain a good driving record.• Able to demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills as well as good listening habits.• Able to demonstrate skills in conflict resolution and problem solving. Ability to be diplomatic.• Able to take initiative to reason and exercise independent judgment and discretion in dealing with a variety of individuals and situations.• Able to handle sensitive/confidential information; work effectively under pressure and practice efficient time management.• Able to work in a team based environment to accomplish assignments and achieve team objectives.• Able to use a laptop or personal computer and software, including e-mail, spreadsheets and word processing.• Able to demonstrate strong organizational management skills including the ability to coach and develop employees, instill customer and quality focus throughout the organization, build a strong employee team and maintain a team work environment.• Able to collect data samples for lab analysis (if required).• Able to conduct formal safety training presentations to line management and craft personnel.• Able to conduct formal incident investigations and informs management on preventative measures for future reoccurrence.• Able to demonstrate a basic knowledge of mathematics and statistics to conduct injury analysis and perform trend analysis.• Able to demonstrate a basic understanding of the processes, systems, assets, resources, key personnel and business functions of the SBU. • Able to perform as a team member or leader in a cross functional team environment and achieve consensus decisions.• Able to perform employee work station ergonomic evaluations and recommend improvements.• Certifications such as a CSP, ASP, or OHST or the ability to obtain one.• Able to work without close supervisory direction, completing the job without constant assignment of tasks or direction to undertake new tasks. • Able to demonstrate commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations, the Company’s Ethics and Compliance Code of Conduct, and other Company policies and procedures and do so consistently, take all required training courses and do so timely.• Able to demonstrate respect for all individuals, adhere to the Company’s values and business practices and do both consistently.

Physical Requirements:• Able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects.• Able to bend and stoop for filing. • Able to sit for extended times.• Able to view computer screen for extended periods of time.• Able to demonstrate and apply manual dexterity for operating computer and office equipment.  

Working Conditions:• Able travel out of town, including overnight stays, approximately 50% of the time.• Able to perform work indoors in an office environment and/or field environment.• Able to work with occasional exposure to all types of weather conditions, if necessary, at night.• Able to work around potentially hazardous condition such as moving machinery, energized equipment, flammable solvents, hazardous wastes, etc.• Able to wear personal protection safety equipment, such as respirator, safety glasses, hard hat, gloves, protective footwear and ear plugs, on an occasionally basis• May be required to remain in the service area during emergency events and assume responsibilities assigned by the company to aide in restoration effortsThis job description reflects an assignment of essential functions.
