Primary job duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
Support all aspects of Human Factors (HF) engineering, spanning the full acquisition lifecycle from concept exploration to system deployment.
Support tasks may include, but are not limited to:
Human Factors planning
Design and analysis of Early Operational Evaluations/Involvement and Risk Reduction Demonstrations
Human Factors engineering assessments
Human Factors design requirements development
Contract document review
Contractor deliverables review
Technical Interchange and Program Meeting participation/facilitation
Testing of user-system interface attributes
Development of Computer-Human Interfaces (CHI)
Human Factors studies
Serving in a role to coordinate completion of tasking with FAA customer
HF portions of Acquisition and Test & Evaluation (T&E) documentation (including developmental and operational testing).
The successful candidate will:
Have a minimum of 10 years of professional work experience in HF engineering, working with state of the art, complex integrated systems (Preferably in aeronautical engineering related field and/or navigation systems).
Have proficiency in HF standards: DOT/FAA/CR-96/1, HF-STD-001 and HF-STD-003
Provide input to test plans and other test and evaluation documentation to ensure the HF aspects of the system are properly considered prior to, and during, formal test events.
Identify risk items that may prevent the system from meeting performance objectives or achieving user acceptance.
Ensure formal test events include HF considerations established by HF professionals.
Ensure that HF documents and events reflect appropriate HF test and evaluation techniques and criteria.
Plan, execute, and support the FAA in the performance of various tasks associated with determining detailed design human interface needs for the system, planning and organizing user groups, working with bargaining units, and using various resources for rapid prototyping, simulation and assessment of the Human-in-the-Loop aspects of system acquisition.
Perform the analyses necessary to determine information and action requirements to specify functionality and user interface characteristics with appropriate user input, perform appropriate design functions to establish symbology requirements, and perform evaluations and simulations to assure that user needs are met and system performance goals are achieved.
Provide team support, as required, during all stages of the acquisition life cycle, including mission analysis, investment analysis activities, developing requirements documentation, HF risk assessments, and benefits analyses, and activities necessary to support in-service management of systems.
Perform HF studies to support system acquisition, including trade studies, literature reviews, analyses, and assessments, as required, to support the FAA when making decisions regarding the human interface aspects of systems.
Use internal FAA resources, including the products of the human factors research program, as well as external sources from government, academic and industrial organizations, as well as established human factors standards including, but not limited to the FAA Human Factors Design Standard
