Thisrole is responsible for the overall management and direction of Health, Safetyand Environment within the confines of the Mid-West Area for the ninebusinesses SGS operates in the US. This role will have a heavy emphasis onIndustrial Hygiene. This role will be responsible for conducting IndustrialHygiene qualitative and quantitative assessments through the United States,evaluating results, recommending control measures and following up withimplementation. Provide Industrial Hygiene guidance to HSE professionals andsite management across the country and across all nine business lines. Educatingsite management on the importance of recognition, evaluation and control ofchemical, physical, biological and psychosocial stressors and communicatingwith all levels of field personnel and management is imperative to the successof this position.\r
Ensure the maintenance of continuous “audit ready” state of compliancewith SGS and governmental HSE Standards.Responsible for the development, deployment of all SGS HSE Standards asthey specifically apply to the Mid-Western US.In cooperation with the Global OI Manager and two other Regional IndustrialHygienists assist with the development, implementation and continuousimprovement of the technical IH aspects of HSE management system, programs andprocesses.Conduct qualitative health risk assessments for each business linethroughout their region.Create Baseline IH Monitoring Plans based on qualitative analysis andconduct monitoring at selected locations throughout their region.Carries out audits to report on status of Policy complianceDevelop and deploy HSE Strategies, Programs and Plans to position theUS as a best in class organizationDelivers training and coaching to establish clear understanding for allrelevant employees on HSE expectations.Serve as the SGS subject matter expert for Industrial Hygiene within theRegion.Participates as part of an integrated Global Industrial Hygiene capacityfor SGS (e.g. hygiene monitoring strategies, methodology, training, use ofglobal tools to comply with SGS corporate standards and local legislation)Support SGS Global OI initiatives in health and hygiene e.g. OEL, medicalsurveillance, etc.Leads the effective implementation and utilization of risk assessment andrisk prediction processes and drives for appropriate mitigation measures tolower associate risk. Ensures effective communication and understanding by allaffected associates.Ensures investigation of all HSE related incidents utilizing specifictools to drive to root cause and identify actions to prevent recurrence. Drivescompletion of recognized corrective actions to prevent incident recurrence areeffectively implemented, this includes execution of corrective actionsdeveloped from other SGS incidents.  Collaborates with Occupation Health and Wellness Management team toensure effective injury case management process is fully implemented, wellunderstood and functioning as desired. Serves as the Mid-Western US level HSE technical expert, providingtechnical expertise/coaching as needed in all areas.Visits location sites on routine basis for collaboration, support andHSE Improvement.Travelonsite to support SGS OI staff and managers on the ground across their regionand within the business lines. Approximately 40% travel is expected

Job Requirements
•         Bachelor’s degree (or higher degree) in science (ex. engineering, chemistry, safety, Industrial Hygiene, etc.) preferred•         7-10 years experience in implementing safety, environmental and/or industrial hygiene programs in an operational  arena.•         Demonstrated leadership in driving a program/system of safety or environmental in an enterprise environment.•         Strong safety regulatory knowledge and expertise, required including EPA, MSHA, OSHA and DOT•         Experience with hazard recognition, behavioral-based safety, job hazard analysis and root cause analysis desiredREQUIRED SKILLS•         Good communication and interpersonal skills.•         Able to build trust, respect and confidentiality.•         Acts quickly and decisively; able to make tough calls.•         Managing multiple HSE programs;•         Providing training, consultation and advice on various health, safety, and environmental issues;•         Working with regulatory agencies;•         Developing and implementing programs;•         Implementing programs, policies, and procedures;•         Working with multiple administrative and functional areas;•         Interpreting and applying department policies and procedures and applicable laws, rules, and regulations;•         Responding to and resolving complex health, safety, and environmental questions and concerns;•         Working with management;•         PC skills; Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); and other applicable applications;•         Communicating with co-workers to provide and receive direction. ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodations.
