Job Introduction In partnership with Department Managers and Shift Leaders\/Supervisory personnel, responsible for coordinating and ensuring that all safety and environmental standards are maintained and in compliance with OSHA and EPA regulations as well as Williamsburg Mfg. and Magna policies. In partnership with department Managers and Shift Leaders\/Supervisory personnel, ensure that all training requirements, including on the job training, are met. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, ability and essential duties required to successfully perform this job. Major Responsibilities \u2022 Ensure Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures are consistently applied based on the principles of the Magna Employee\u2019s Charter, Corporate and Divisional policy, as and in compliance with Federal, State and Local regulations \u2022 Ensure a safe work environment by coordinating all safety activities to reduce workplace accidents and protect associates \u2022 Plan and coordinate internal and external safety training for all associates \u2022 Coordinate and attend all meetings and activities of the JHSC and Ergonomics Committees \u2022 Maintain effective communication and coordination with all internal customers, plant management and associates; maintain positive employee relations; listen to issues and concerns and respond promptly \u2022 Follow the principles of the Magna Employee Charter \u2022 Promote and practice \u201csafety first\u201d by immediately addressing any hazards, defective equipment or unsafe conditions within the department \u2022 Support new program launches as needed \u2022 Provide motivation and results-oriented environment \u2022 Provide counsel and support to associates and management on health, safety and environmental matters \u2022 Establish written safety standards and annually update and review these policies and procedures \u2022 Evaluate safety and ergonomic issues in workstation design and layout and in the development stage of manufacturing processes and equipment \u2022 Provide and maintain statistics to assist in continuous improvement in the area of workplace safety and loss control \u2022 Review all accident\/incident investigation reports and provide leadership in developing and implementing corrective actions \u2022 Analyze loss control statistics and make recommendations for continuous improvement \u2022 Coordinate the selection of personal protective equipment (PPE) and appropriate fit testing of such items \u2022 Conduct monthly safety and environmental audits and report results to division management \u2022 Coordinate meetings and provide necessary administrative support to Health, Safety and Environmental Committee \u2022 Ensure that the Health and Safety portions of the Action Plan resulting from the Employee Opinion Survey are completed in a timely fashion. \u2022 Maintain a high profile with associates on the plant floor and be a strong advocate to ensure that associate safety and environmental concerns and issues are resolved in a timely manner \u2022 Monitor new and amended legislation and remain current with the latest health, safety and environmental requirements \u2022 Keep safety boards updated throughout facility and post minutes of Health, Safety and Environmental Committee meetings \u2022 Implement, maintain and report on status of the Environmental Management System per ISO-14001 requirements \u2022 Maintain statistical information on waste streams \u2022 Coordinate recycling program \u2022 Coordinate spill control team \u2022 Participate in monthly associate meetings \u2022 Provide supervisors with safety topics for use in line meetings \u2022 Report on status of departmental projects as required \u2022 Monitor Material Safety Date Sheets (MSDS) and ensure they are updated \u2022 Investigate ways to reduce waste and environmental liability \u2022 Conduct sampling as required to comply with environmental regulations \u2022 Coordinate sampling, transportation and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams \u2022 Handle confidential information on a regular basis \u2022 Complete correspondence, forms and reports in Microsoft Office and other required programs \u2022 Ensure all employee documentation is maintained \u2022 Encourage safety and housekeeping practices and lead by example \u2022 Promote and facilitate Open Door process without reprisal, effective communication and Fair Treatment \u2022 Participate in Continual Improvement activities \u2022 Adhere to customer requirements, Business Operating System and company policies \u2022 Perform other duties as assigned Knowledge and Education Qualifications \u2022 Able to demonstrate understanding of how job performance affects product quality and customer satisfaction \u2022 Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills; demonstrated leadership capabilities \u2022 Must be a team player and promote a team approach to problem solving \u2022 Highly self motivated and flexible \u2022 Must be capable of working under pressure and with short completion times on projects, and of working flexible hours in order to meet both internal and external customer requirements \u2022 Able to use computer and software as required \u2022 Able to maintain confidentiality and use discretion and tact Education \u2022 Bachelor of Science degree in safety engineering, ergonomics or a related discipline is preferred, or at least 7 years equivalent experience in an industrial environment Work Experience \u2022 Five years experience in health, safety and environmental field, in a manufacturing environment \u2022 Minimum of 1 year in a training related position Skills and Competencies Training and Certifications \u2022 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) \u2022 Hazmat \u2022 First Aid and CPR \u2022 Respirator \u2022 Fire Extinguisher \u2022 Ergonomics \u2022 Spill Control \u2022 ISO-14001 Work Environment Work Environment The work environment is a combination of office and manufacturing plant, and is characterized by temperature extremes, loud noise, chemicals, considerable tow motor traffic and pressure caused by deadlines and interruptions.
