JOB DESCRIPTION: Plans and executes the usability engineering process for critically important products and product lines with the purpose of meeting divisional growth objectives. Works with project teams and end users to identify usability risks, create task workflows, user interface concepts, and detailed usability plans. Ensures the usability engineering activities and documentation is in compliance\u00a0with regulatory standards. Applies usability principles to the evaluation and solution of complex product design problems. Exercises independent judgment in the planning, organizing, and performing work; monitors performance and reports status to manager.\u00a0 Impact this role will have on Abbott: Participates in research activities to gain understanding into user, patient, and environmental profiles Provides input to customer, product, and software requirements Creates use specifications, usability research plans, protocols, and reports Provides user interface design direction Participates in the risk management process and identifies or evaluates usability related risks, hazards, and hazard-scenarios Plans and performs user research activities and formative\/summative usability testing including recruiting users, scheduling, and facilitating sessions Performs activities with users in actual or simulated use environments such as cognitive walk-throughs, contextual analysis, or expert reviews Works with cross-functional teams to provide user interface design, and\/or workflow recommendations Create usability engineering compliance and summary reports for regulatory submissions Your experience(s), education and knowledge will further expand Abbott\u2019s marketplace success: Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Human Factors Engineering or Interaction Design Minimum of 5 years of work experience with the design of complex user interfaces 5 years of hands-on usability testing experience including the creation of protocols, moderator scripts, and usability reports 5 years of experience with planning and moderating usability testing.\u00a0 Requires in-depth knowledge and experience of human factors as well as cognitive psychology theory and applications; the software development process, software technology, and effective methods of working with R&D teams; customers, trends, and governmental factors Advanced computer skills including spreadsheet, word processing, and specialized applications Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment Ability to travel approximately 10% - 20%, including internationally. Preferred: Medical Device Industry experience In-depth knowledge of FDA\u2019s guidance as well as international standards on the usability engineering process for medical devices User interface design experience including labeling, software applications, icons, and graphics
