Job Summary:

Juno Therapeutics, a Bristol-Myers Squibb company, is a clinical-stage company developing novel cellular immunotherapies based on two distinct and complementary platforms – Chimeric Antigen Receptors (CARs) and T Cell Receptors (TCRs) technologies. Our goal is to revolutionize medicine by re-engaging the body’s immune system to treat cancer.

The primary focus of the EHS Associate will be to support the EHS programs at Dexter location which includes the Research and Process and Analytical laboratories. The EHS Associate will work directly with the laboratories and serves as an expert regarding chemical hygiene, environmental management and general safety to ensure best practices and compliance with all relevant state and federal regulations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Chemical Hygiene – Ensure compliance to all chemical hygiene requirements. This person with manage the Hazardous Communication program include Safety Data Sheets (SDS), labeling and worker training.

Safety Program – Work with staff to promote a positive safety culture. Serves the Safety Committee by leading safety inspections and other audit programs. Prepares and tracks incident investigations and reports. Provide technical assistance to the Safety Committee as needed.

Occupational Hygiene – Responsible for the retention of data associated with the occupational hygiene program including workplace assessments, air monitoring etc.

Participate in ergonomics program by providing workstation assessments and injury evaluations.

Training – Develop and provide EHS training to personnel, including initial employee orientation and subsequent refresher training. Maintain records of EHS training in appropriate database.

Environmental – Promote environmental stewardship within Juno. Responsible for the collection, storage, packaging and shipment of hazardous waste. Maintain hazardous materials files, and fills out annual reports.

Compliance – Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal safety, environmental and employee health regulations, guidelines, and all applicable Juno policies and procedures. Ensure shipment of all materials meet IATA and DOT requirements. Develop and maintain EHS manuals, SOP’s and intranet resources.

Other – Perform other related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in industrial hygiene, environmental health, chemistry, biology, or closely related scientific field.

Experience

Minimum 2 years of directly related EHS experience, preferably in a laboratory environment. Strong background in chemical hygiene in a laboratory setting.

Skills

• Excellent communication, presentation and customer service skills to effectively support our positive safety culture. • Strong ability to interact positively with diverse colleagues and departments on a daily basis. • Knowledge and understanding of applicable federal, state, and local environmental health and safety regulations and procedures that apply to the biotech industry. • Ability to make recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues, by using effective and appropriate judgment. • Rigorous dedication to detail that is required to sustain an effective safety program.

WORKING CONDITIONS (US Only):

Must be able to infrequently lift 60lbs. Work as described above includes an average of 80-90% desk work (can be seated or standing), and 10-20% moving. Work always occurs indoors in either an open office setting or laboratory setting. Some work will be conducted around hazardous chemicals and bloodborne pathogens.
