Peabody Western Coal Company has an opening for a Safety Specialist II. The primary responsibility of the position is to assist in safety and compliance on the mine site. Incumbent will be responsible for assisting in design, implementation and maintenance of the safety program, which complies with corporate policies and state, federal, tribal and local regulations. Interaction with other departments in communicating and enforcing the safety program including other duties as directed and required by the company to ensure optimal safe operations.The primary purpose of the position is to assist in conducting continuous safety inspections or concerns, including accompanying MSHA and Navajo Nation Inspectors. Must also complete required reporting to agencies that govern mine health and safety regulations. Provide input in formulation of acceptable procedures for potentially hazardous work practice(s). Conduct follow-up safety meetings, work with Safety Manager in updating management and modify/develop procedures for all new and proposed regulations. Must have the ability to recognize potential hazards by understanding mechanical functions and operations of all mine equipment and machinery.A Bachelors Degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene or related field is preferred. Must have five years of mining or related field experience. Incumbent must hold MSHA Instructor?s Certification to have the ability to complete and instruct mandated MSHA and Safety training. Surface Certification is required and Standard First Aid Instructor Certification is desired. Must have and maintain a current Driver?s License. This position requires excellent diagnostic, comprehension and communication skills and ability to write detailed documents and reports proficiently in English. The person must also be able to operate a personal computer, and have good knowledge of computer software, (including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint). This incumbent must have the ability to work flexible hours to meet the business needs. The position is based in Northern Arizona and entails some travel. This is a staff position and a salary will be set that will commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position as well as the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
