Workplace Safety Specialist, Contractor Safety - Environmental Health and Safety-2008894 Description : Job Summary Carnegie Mellon, one of the world leaders in higher education and research, is seeking a Workplace Safety Specialist to join Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S). We are looking for a dedicated professional to support the Workplace Safety Program within EH&S\u2019s day-to-day operations. You will be responsible for supporting EH&S\u2019s Workplace Safety Manager in the development, deployment, quality assurance, and training of Workplace Safety Programs that comply with federal, state, and local regulatory obligations and university procedures. You will achieve these goals through collaboration with all EH&S staff in the efficient and integrated delivery of services. Responsibilities include: Contractor Safety: Assist in incorporating contractor safety as a part of the Workplace Safety Program. Collaborate to provide guidance and recommendations prior to, during, and after construction and building renovations to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards. Program Development: Assist in the update and\/or development of programs related to workplace safety, including but not limited to fall protection, machine guarding, confined space, and electrical safety. Training: Provide training and assistance to the university community in ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory obligations as it relates to Workplace safety programs. Quality Assurance: Conduct periodic assessments of Workplace Safety programs with the university community to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory obligations. Equipment Safety: Collaborate with academic and student groups in the safe operation and handling of equipment located in shop and maker spaces. Incident Management: P rovide assistance in the investigation and reporting of workplace related injuries, and identify opportunities for process and program improvement. Committee participation: Participate in Safety in the Arts and Shop Safety Committees, as needed. General assistance: Assist EH&S team members with workplace safety requests for service, and functions as a high performing, results driven team member. You should possess exceptional organizational and communication skills to make a positive impact on our programs and the university. You should demonstrate the ability to solve problems, influence others, and show dedication to campus safety through improvement of EH&S programs.
