The Department of Agriculture Trade and Consumer Protection currently\u00a0is seeking\u00a0an Environmental Health Sanitarian - Entry\/Senior\u00a0(Recreation & Retail Emphasis)\u00a0 to workin our Division of Food and Recreational Safety, Bureau of Food and Recreational Businesses. This is a field position and the current opening will be headquartered in the following location: Columbia and Dodge\u00a0Counties The Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) employs a diverse mix of people in the service of the State of Wisconsin. Position Summary: This position is responsible for enforcement of food and health safety laws, administrative codes, regulations, and standards governing all dairy, food safety, and recreational licensing programs under the authority of Wisconsin Statutes. The incumbent must have the ability to work independently, organize and prioritize a variety of tasks, maintain\u00a0his or her\u00a0schedule and complete assignments. The incumbent is responsible for: on-site evaluation, inspection, and documentation of sanitary conditions and durability of facilities, equipment, and\/or product; application of codes and statutes; providing technical consultation and educational services to industry representatives, business owners\/operators, agents, local and state officials, and the general public. Based upon evaluation and\/or inspection findings, staff are responsible to prepare reports and take or recommend enforcement action as outlined in applicable codes and statutes. This includes the ability to issue or\u00a0deny licenses, or in some instances, issue closure orders when an imminent health threat is found. Examples of the various\u00a0locations for evaluation and inspection\u00a0include: permanent, mobile, and temporary restaurants; recreational-educational camps; campgrounds; vending operations; public swimming facilities; and other establishments subject to Wisconsin licensure; private water supply or sewage disposal systems;\u00a0and municipal or well water supply systems. The incumbent will also coordinate with other technical specialists as well as\u00a0state and federal agencies\u00a0to investigate consumer complaints, food or recreational emergencies, and food or waterborne illness outbreaks. Special Notes: Position involves routine and extended travel throughout the State, including the need for flexibility with schedule changes. Valid driver\u2019s license or the ability to provide one\u2019s own transportation for work purposes is also required. A criminal background check will be conducted prior to an offer of employment. Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DATCP sponsorship) at the time of application. Physical Demands Sanitarian\u00a0work requires lifting up to 50 pounds; thorough use of sight and hearing to observe physical surroundings; ability to climb and work at elevated heights such as on catwalks; as well as sitting, standing, walking,\u00a0and bending\u00a0for extended periods of time. Candidate must also have the ability to complete outdoor job activities the entire 12 months of the year which may include inclement weather and extreme temperatures. Qualifications: Minimally Qualified Candidates At the Entry Level : Must\u00a0be eligible to take the Wisconsin Registered Sanitarian exam, the NEHA REHS\/RS exam, or hold the RS in Training title (for Eligibility requirements please see hyperlinks below). Minimally Qualified Candidates At the Senior Level : Will possess the Wisconsin Registered Sanitarian credential, or the NEHA REHS\/RS credential.
