In accordance with 5 U.S.C. 3307, a maximum entry age of 36 has been established for initial appointment to a position in a Bureau of Prisons institution.

The representative rate for this position is $65,675 per annum ($31.47 per hour).

Responsibilities

The incumbent conducts safety and environmental inspections of the institution and prepares a report for the Environmental and Safety Compliance Administrator's review. The incumbent should be prepared to submit recommendations to correct the deficiencies discovered.

The incumbent will assist the Environmental and Safety Compliance Administrator or Assistant Environmental and Safety Compliance Administrator in conducting investigations. This will include obtaining statements from witnesses and securing physical evidence. The employee should have the skills necessary to prepare a factual written report for all concerned that will identify the accident, injuries suffered by staff and/or inmates, cost of property damage and offer recommendations to eliminate future accidents in the future. Responsible for developing and conducting safety training classes for the inmate population and staff. This should include the skills necessary to produce handout materials that depict various safety problems and ways to increase safety awareness.

Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staffs correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.

The workload quickly became too much for one person, necessitating the hiring of several assistants for the Attorney General. With an increasing amount of work to be done, private attorneys were retained to work on cases.
